Myocardial bridge as a structure of "double-edged sword" for the coronary artery.

چکیده
Myocardial bridge (MB) is a chance anatomical structure, comprised of the myocardial tissue, with which the coronary artery running in epicardial adipose tissue is partly covered. It is predominantly present in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and recognizable through imaging techniques as changes in blood flow within the LAD that arises from MB contraction at cardiac systole. Such changes in blood flow influence the pathophysiology of coronary circulation and atherosclerosis development, thus generating controversy as to whether MB predisposes individual to myocardial infarction (MI). However, recent histomorphometric studies have shown that the individual anatomic properties of MB, such as location, length and thickness, consistently play a critical role in the occurrence of MI. This review article comprehensively addresses the pathophysiological mechanisms of MI occurrence together with the benign suppressive effect of coronary atherosclerosis by MB.

A Rare Case of Double Myocardial Bridges of the Left Anterior Descending Artery
Myocardial bridge is a benign congenital anomaly in which a segment of major epicardial coronary arteries descends into the myocardium for a variable distance. Myocardial bridge is most often single and located in the middle part of the left anterior descending artery. The presence of more than one myocardial bridge in coronary arteries is very rare. We present a patient with more than one myoc...
متن کاملMultiple myocardial bridge in a 59 year-old woman
Introduction: Myocardial bridging is a congenital condition in which a segment of a major epicardial coronary artery has an intra myocardial route. Myocardial bridging is usually confined to a single vessel and is typically the mid segment of the left anterior descending artery. Bridging may be associated with chest pain, myocardial infarction, and sudden cardiac death, or usually asymptomati...

Challenging case of Muscle Bridge; a 15-year follow-up of a patient
Background: Anatomically myocardial bridging (MB) consists of either superficial myocardial fibers that traverse over the LAD or deep fibers that encircle the coronary artery. In this study, we present a patient with myocardial bridging, who was primarily diagnosed with coronary artery disease which did not properly respond to full-dose medical treatment but benefited from coronary artery bypas...
